As a former educator and administrator, I have sat through active shooter training drills. No resident, student, educator, or parent should fear a final goodbye. Students and educators should be able to focus on books and building bonds, not bullets.

While working for the late Congressman Payne Jr, gun violence prevention and community intervention was a top priority, and we continuously stressed that community involvement was key. The intersections of gun violence, mental health, and real world living conditions contribute immensely to this epidemic. As a town council member, I look forward to implementing meaningful policy to reduce gun violence and to further support safe neighborhoods where residents can thrive and enjoy West Orange.
